Balos staat bekend om zijn turquoise wateren, wilde natuurlijke schoonheid en prachtige landschappen. De lagune van Balos heeft wit zand en diep blauwgroen water met warm ondiep water. Op andere plaatsen heeft het zand een mooie roze kleur als gevolg van de verpletterde schelpen. Achter de rotsen maakt het diepere en koelere water het ideaal om te snorkelen. Het gebied is omgeven door zeldzame soorten flora en fauna en wordt beschouwd als onderdeel van het Natura Protection Program Het schiereiland Gramvousa valt op met zijn opvallende Venetiaanse kasteel en een wrak van een vrachtschip.
