Fountaine Pajot lanceerde de Lucia 40 op het 40-jarig jubileum van de werf - een mooi verjaardagscadeau voor zichzelf en voor zeilers die op zoek zijn naar een handelbare cruisekat die perfect is voor het varen op de BVI. Het ontwerpteam van Berret-Racoupeau kreeg de opdracht om de allure van een grote boot op een kleinere voetafdruk te brengen, en het resultaat is een slanke kruiser met veel breedte en dekruimte zonder er hoekig of onhandig lang uit te zien. De rompen hebben een fijne instap voor betere prestaties, de vaste kielen elimineren de noodzaak van zwaarden en het koetsdak kantelt naar beneden als het naar voren duikt, waardoor schaduw over de ramen wordt toegevoegd. De Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 is eigenlijk groter dan de Lipari 41 die ze verving, met een ruimere cockpit, meer binnenvolume en meer extra grote ramen rondom. Het instappen via de achterste spiegelplatforms wordt gemakkelijker gemaakt dankzij goed geplaatste handgrepen. Vanaf hier is het nog maar één stap omhoog naar de cockpit, die zoals gezegd zeer ruim is. In feite is hij bijna zo groot als de cockpit van de populaire Helia 44. De L-vormige dinette aan bakboord biedt plaats aan maximaal acht personen en er zijn extra zitplaatsen langs de spiegel en aan stuurboord. De gehele kuip wordt beschermd door een composiet bimini, die tevens dient als basis voor de grote grootschoottraveler, waardoor het lopend want uit de kuip blijft. Nauti Dog heeft een verhoogde stuurstand met zitplaatsen voor twee, met uitstekend zicht op het zeilplan en bij het manoeuvreren. Met haar dubbele motor van 30 pk is het een fluitje van een cent om een ligplaats op te halen of langszij te komen. Een elektrische lier hijst haar volledig doorgelat grootzeil en binnen enkele seconden wordt een rolfok gezet. Het grootzeilstapelpakket, ook wel een lazy bag genoemd, maakt het laten vallen en afbladderen van het zeil uiterst eenvoudig. De Lucia 40 reageert goed op zeilen, is gemakkelijk overstag te gaan en kan gemakkelijk door twee zeilers worden bestuurd. Met een volledige reeks elektronica, waaronder twee kaartplotters en een stuurautomaat, is het een genot om aan boord te cruisen. Op haar davits staat een stijve opblaasbare rubberboot van 3 meter met een Yamaha buitenboordmotor van 15 pk. De rubberboot wordt snel gelanceerd en opgehaald en stapt met 2 of 3 personen aan boord van het vliegtuig en vervoert tot 6 personen comfortabel naar uw favoriete snorkelplekken. De goed ingerichte salon is toegankelijk via een grote dubbele schuifdeur. De kombuis heeft een gasoven en een ruime koelkast van 130 liter. Deze Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 is de eigenaarsversie – de “Maestro” met drie hutten, drie elektrische hoofden en douches. Een generator kan airconditioning door het hele jacht laten draaien, hoewel u met de hatch breeze boosters aan boord het grootste deel van het jaar in de BVI kunt ontspannen in het comfort van de passaatwind. De gehele stuurboordromp is gewijd aan een master suite, met een en-suite toilet en douche. Het rondloopeiland Queen dubbele achterk is gemakkelijk te betreden, en er is een bureau midscheeps als je wat ruimte nodig hebt om ‘off the grid’ te werken. De stuurboordromp heeft twee even ruime tweepersoonshutten, elk met een eigen toilet en douche. Met zonnepanelen om uw batterijen bij te vullen en een watermaker om uw watertanks bijgevuld te houden, is Nauti Dog een briljante kat om de eilanden en baaien van de BVI te verkennen. The design team of Berret-Racoupeau was tasked with bringing big-boat allure to a smaller footprint, and the result is a sleek cruiser that has plenty of beam and deck space without looking boxy or awkwardly tall. The hulls have a fine entry for better performance, the fixed keels eliminate the need for daggerboards and the coachroof angles down as it swoops forward, adding shade over the windows. The Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 is actually bigger than the Lipari 41 she replaced, featuring a more spacious cockpit, more interior volume and more oversized windows all around. Boarding via the aft transom platforms is made easier with well-placed handholds. From here, it’s only one step up to the cockpit, which as mentioned, is very spacious. In fact, it is almost the size of the cockpit of the popular Helia 44. The portside L-shaped dinette can accommodate up to eight, and there is additional seating along the transom and on the starboard side. The entire cockpit is protected by a composite bimini, which also serves as the base for the large mainsheet traveller, keeping the running rigging out of the cockpit. Nauti Dog has an elevated helm position with seating for two, with excellent visibility of the sail plan and for manoeuvering. Her twin 30 HP engines make her a breeze to pick up a mooring or to come alongside. An electric winch hoists her fully battened mainsail, and a furling jib is set in a matter of seconds. The mainsail stack pack, also known as a lazy bag, makes dropping and flaking the sail extremely easy. The Lucia 40 is responsive to sail, easy to tack, and can be handled easily by two sailors. With a full suite of electronics, including two chart plotters and an autopilot, she is a joy to cruise aboard. Stored on her davits is a 10ft Rigid Inflatable Dinghy with a 15hp Yamaha outboard. Quickly launched and retrieved, the dinghy will get on the plane with 2 or 3 aboard and carry up to 6 persons comfortably to your favourite snorkel spots. The well-appointed saloon is accessed via a large sliding double door. The galley has a gas oven and a capacious 130-litre fridge. This Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40 is the owner’s version – the three-cabin “Maestro” with three electric heads and showers. A generator can run air conditioning throughout the yacht, although with hatch breeze boosters aboard, most of the year in the BVI you can relax in the comfort of the tradewinds. The entire starboard hull is dedicated to a master suite, with an en-suite head and shower. The walk-around island Queen double aft is easy to get into, and there is a desk amidships if you need some space to work “off the grid”. The starboard hull has two equally spacious double cabins, each with its own head and shower. With solar panels to keep your batteries topped up and a water maker to keep your water tanks topped off, Nauti Dog is a brilliant cat to explore the islands and cays of the BVI.
